OpenAI Executive Reshuffle
OpenAI is reorganising its senior leadership after Fidji Simo, who heads the company's AGI and applications business, took a medical leave of absence. The changes span several roles and represent one of the more significant internal shake-ups the company has disclosed publicly.
President Greg Brockman will step in to oversee product during Simo's absence, according to CNBC. Brockman, a co-founder of OpenAI, had previously taken a sabbatical before returning to the company.
Chief Operating Officer Brad Lightcap is shifting out of his COO role and into a newly created position focused on 'special projects', according to TechCrunch. The reorganisation also involves changes to the company's chief marketing officer role, according to Business Insider.
The timing and scope of Simo's leave have not been specified in the reports, nor has OpenAI indicated whether a permanent successor to the COO role will be appointed. The company has not publicly disclosed the nature of Simo's medical leave.
The reshuffle adds to a pattern of leadership movement at OpenAI over the past year, which has included high-profile departures from its research and safety teams.
