Nvidia backs Marvell with $2bn stake
Nvidia is investing $2 billion in Marvell Technology, combining a direct equity stake with a strategic partnership, according to reports from MarketWatch and CNBC. Marvell shares rose 11% on the news.
The deal follows a pattern of Nvidia deploying capital into companies whose products and services are integral to AI infrastructure build-out. Marvell, which designs custom semiconductors including networking and storage chips used in data centres, sits squarely within the supply chain Nvidia depends on for its own AI platform.
The scale of the investment, $2 billion, is notable as a signal of how aggressively Nvidia is moving to secure alignment with key suppliers and partners, rather than simply transacting with them commercially. The terms of the partnership have not been fully detailed in available reports.
Marvell had already been gaining ground as a provider of custom ASICs for hyperscale cloud customers seeking alternatives or complements to standard GPU-based compute. An Nvidia partnership adds a further dimension to that positioning.
